Steel wool is indeed fine, but contact cleaner? Stay away from it unless you know FOR SURE what it will do. We have replaced numerous tube sockets that lost connection because a customer had been applying some "cleaner". Last time the price tag for such replacement was in the hundreds of dollars - all sockets were coated with dense brown stuff - I would really like to call it shit - and it took hours to do.So if you still insist on using something after the steel wool - use alcohol, but not much more, please.
