Hi, Lee. I believe this is a 'Barretter tube'. The rest you know. Think current source. The name derives from a somewhat lookalike invented by
R. Fessenden used as a radio detector - going back to the turn of the
next to last century. A better term for it would probably be an iron-
hydrogen resistor. The Fessenden invention involved a thin platinum
wire encased in silver wire, drawn, and under vacuum under glass.
