Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Yes

Hi, akolegov. Yes. 5Z3 is the same as 5U4G - that is if the tube is built to original specifications and yields the same essential characteristics. Does your '5Z3' have an Octal base? The original (or should it be real) 5Z3 is a 4 prong tube. The Chinese tube makers can call something whatever they want. Calling a tube 5Z3 doesn't out of hand make it so. If the Sino 5Z3 was patterned after the original old stock 5Z3
including a 4 prong base then one could say it is a replica of the original. In this case the characteristics look like 5U4G. The 5Z3 was an earlier tube replaced by 5U4. The difference? The Octal base.
