Hi, dvb. Considering anode operating temperature of a 2A3 use of graphite as the anode material seems wrong headed. Graphite anodes are used to make
transmitting type tubes where the anode would be glowing red or on the
verge of doing so. The graphite must be processed for impurities. Zirconium coating of the graphite plates enhances their gettering action at temperature. I see the offering of graphite plates on a 2A3 as a purely marketing tool. It makes no sense in the real world to use graphite anodes in a 2A3. However it does create another opportunity for the makers to extract hundreds of $ from the wallets of purchasers.
