Hi, jcmusic. Type 50? To me it sounds better than 300B. Roughly same kind of dissipation, plate voltage, current through the tube, etc. This
tube speaks to me clearly and plainly. It is all music. I like to give
it a 5K load. It was somewhat rare probably because it was relatively
expensive. Price in this case reflects labor intensive manufacture. Complex spring loaded filament supports. A single tall plate structure.
Are you familiar with sound of Type 45? In its own way it cannot be
rivaled. The 50 has a sound all its own. Certainly there are more than
hints of Type 45 in that sound. All of the above refers to original
Old Stock Type 50 tubes. Have not as yet tried any of the revivals.
Based on my experience with AVVT-2A3 & AVVT-45 my guess is modern
revivals of the 50 will be glorious.
