RE: Mazda tubes

Tom, hi. I like the sound of Mazda (made in France) 12AX7S. Hard to make across the board 'it sounds best' statements considering circuit variations. They were not 'bright' or 'tipped up' in sound at all. The only brightness is optical reflectivity. I like them as much as any 12AX7 including Telefunken and made in Holland Amperex. The bright Mazda plates look to be 100% non carbonized nickel not nickel plated or chromium plated. My journey has taken me to low mu triodes as voltage amplifiers (56 27). Even in a 3 stage amp there is something amazing using these types. I guess the next step is 26 and 01-A. As far as 12AU7 types the top of the pyramid would have to include made by RCA for the FAA 5814A.
