RE: KT120 tubes in Luxman MB3045?

tutor turtle, hi. You are welcome. Sorry it has taken this long to respond. Things happen. Interesting you bring up the bias question regarding KT-120. Have you seen the curves re the New Sensor site? Take a look. What do you see compare and contrast with KT-88, old TungSol 6550, GE 6550A, KT-66, 6L6G, you pick. I can't do curves here. I would like to see someone who can do to get on it and to upper limits of B+. It looks to me like 0.75V through the 10 Ohm R should be a piece of cake. I'll have to check the current spec of the HV winding. Even if the 120 is not very linear all bets are off because of the tightly coupled sections of the Lux output trans primary. Starting with the pre-driver through output tube, cathodes and plates are coil coupled and wound tri-filar. You are going to have to listen for yourself on this one. Trust no ones ears but your own.

If truth be known Lux was operating the original US output tube (8045G) at the hairy red line. Early tube failure was inevitable but they sounded like someone sent them to earth from heaven. So help me. Dynamic. Effortless. Musical. PRAT. Orgasmic. It may be too early to
tell if the 120 is the tube MB-3045 were destined to have. Perhaps you will be able to write the first posting. Happy Listening! PS - if i were a betting man i would wager in favor of triode wired KT-120 sounding very good indeed in Luxman MB-3045.
