Cary Audio Sweet 807...

darkmoebius, hi. The Cary 'Sweet 807'. This stereo amp was one of the early offerings from that company. One power trans. Two-5V4 in parallel.
One 6SL7 per channel. PP 807 UL. There were some trimmers on the feedback loops to either half of the 6SL7 as I recall. The chassis was the same as that offered on a PP 2A3 amp that had exactly the same topology except for the output tubes. Chassis was chrome over nickel. The 6SL7 was the phase splitter. There was no voltage gain stage in front of it. Signal went to grid of one triode section with the other section referenced to ground. Plate caps were Chinese mystery metal inside ceramic. The wire from the cap to the underside was the same very thin gold colored coax used to route input to the 6SL7. It was pretty stiff. I replaced with Belden 5K rubber coat non-tinned copper test prod wire. This was because the original stuff had no strain relief at the top cap. Changing tubes would lead to metal fatigue and eventually separation. There was one set of output binding posts as I recall - 8 Ohms. I have the schematic around somewhere but not easily at hand. It must have been cathode bias because I don't remember being able to set bias. Changing 807 would require a scope of output and tweaking of the feedback to get best symetrical drive and lowest distortion. There was a 'standby' switch to interrupt ground return to P trans center tap. Power supply caps were the usual suspects - 1200uF 450V. The Sweet 807 goes back to circa 1992. I guess those are the salient points as dredged up from memory.
