silverlight, hi. Trying to shift the character of your 211 FE by merely replacing tubes seems to me to be an exercise in futility. You might be able to swing it a little one way or the other but credit for transformational sonic shifting would most likely be attributable to the powers of suggestion or wishful hearing. However if you are determined to advance on this front there are some things you might consider. If there are any coupling caps in the 211 FE you might be able to effect sonic change by changing these. There are no guarantees as to quantity of or quality of sound so changed however. It would have to be experimental. Merely swapping tubes around is probably not going to do what you wish. The Spectron is so utterly different from the 211 FE as to be in another universe or perhaps dimension altogether. SS highs can be twinkling, even etched, but in my experience do not reproduce semblance of the original instruments. And there is always the slamming kind of SS low end that commands attention but also errs on the side of unreality - unless that reality includes such things as electrified bass guitar where the electrification is via solid state amps. What is the sensitivity of your speakers? If above, say, 92 dB 1W/1M it is too bad you did not get a chance to hear them with a truly excellent single ended triode amp - even as merely a point of interest in your quest for sound. If you are used to the Spectron I'm not sure what vacuum tube amplifier is going to float your boat so to speak. In your position and considering what sums you have already spent I would have urged you to hear something with parallel 845 like the Mastersound or even the VAC 70/70.
