RE: Audio Research D-115 fuses value

Mywing, hi again. One fuse is glass tube with metal end caps. The other is similar except the tube is (probably) ceramic. Are they Bussman? I'm not aware of why a manufacturer would use a ceramic tube. That's a good question to ask the manufacturer. We'll all learn something. Conceivably one could build a fuse - glass tube, the right AWG wire to melt over a current theshold. Futterman used one piece of #44 wire as fuse attached to each output tube socket. (H3aa - 6LF6) Never lost a tube or fuse over a span of several years daily use. I am not suggesting you should fool around doing this. ARC would probably definitely frown on the idea. The 1/4 amp fuses in my DVM are ceramic tubed too come to think of it. Same deal. You cannot see the fusing metal by sight. Perhaps there is some kind of Underwriters Laboratory thing going on. Liability issue?
