Fender, hi. I find the 6GM5 to sound every bit as good as OS 7591/7591A if not better. It may have something to do with not having leads from the tube going into an Octal base and being soldered. Making adaptor sockets will test your patience but if you have 6GM5 it is worth it. The look of a 6GM5 sitting on an adaptor built into an Octal socket reminds me of the Chrysler Building. The 6GM5 is pumped from the top so when sealed it has that swooping upward feel. I don't have many 7868 tubes on the shelf so have not experimented with it. The only amp here that uses it is an RCA single ended program amp. Interestingly it ran continuously from about 1978 to 1999 with zero down time or off time. I think most of the 6GM5 I have are GE and RCA. Happy Listening.
