I have a large collection of 12AX7's and 5751's. I don't have the Telefunken ECC803S. Many claim this is a great tube. It is absurdly expensive and from people that have tried them whose comparisons I trust, they are ultra detailed and only suitable for a dark sounding system. There are several different Raytheon JRP 12AX7's. My favorite 12AX7 is the Raytheon blackplate square getter. It is a wonderful tube with great presence. It does the entire spectrum well and is very detailed and FAST. It may push a dead neutral system too much on the bright side. It needs to be balanced with a warm, full bodied tube. It doesn't smear detail and this is the only 12AX7 in my collection I can say that about. Quiet or noisy with this tube is a hit or miss prospect.
You would be better off looking at the 5751 family as it is superior to the 12AX7's almost without exception. It is also a much quieter family, especially the 3 mica versions.
