The 5AU4 requires a filament current of 3.75 amps! That is guaranteed to fry the power transformer of a ST70.
I haven't checked a ST70 lately, but it is possible you could fit a 5V 4 amp filament transformer in a ST70 chassis. If so this would be an excellent idea as it would lessen the load on the power tranny by 10 watts.
And, of course, you can get 5AU4s for $5 - $10 on eBay if you have some patience.
