RE: 6F8G/ VT99 Observations

I had to jump in on this 6F8G lovefest. This is a unique sounding tube. The only other tube I have heard with similar characteristics is the 5963 RCA square getter. I call these GOD tubes. They have an absolutely bizarre presentation. They sound like an amorphous blob of sound. Hence the GOD reference due to its huge soundfield that seems to emanate from everywhere. This is certainly not a tube suited to listening to music on any system I could imagine. This is the anti PRAT tube. I suppose there is a dreadful sounding all SS system with a early (circa 1980) CD player (think severe digititis) that this tube in a tubed preamp could make listenable. I had several varieties hoping to find one that would be great or at least good as the great 6SN7's are much more expensive. They all had the presentation previously described. The differences were irrelevant as they were not useful for listening to music. I just went upstairs to dig thru my closet to see which I had tried. I tried, Raytheon, Tung Sol, Sylvania and RCA. I have a large collection of 6SN7 tubes and this is a great family. The Raytheon has a house sound as do all manufacturers. The Raytheon house sound (with very few exceptions) is
very fast, detailed with great tight bass and excellent extension on both ends, great presence also. After trying the TS 6F8G (this is the first 6F8G I sought due to the cost of the TS 6SN7 and its greatness, a flawless presentation), I bought a pair of Raytheon's. I knew that if this tube was slow and amorphous there was no hope for this family. It was! I must have tried the RCA's and Sylvania's before deciding to get the Raytheon's. OK bring it on.
