Neff, hi. There are 'haters' of the EL34 who are much infatuated with, say, the 6L6, who love to fuel this fire. Marantz chose EL34 for the Model Two amplifiers - the first Marantz power amplifier - highly sought after and superb sounding - perhaps in the circle of best commercial amps of all time. Then there is the Marantz Model Nine. Both used EL34. The EL34 Dynaco Stereo 70 found a wide audience of enthusiasts from its inception and enjoys same today. And, lets not forget the wonderful Quicksilver MS-190 - the first amplifier from QS. It is a push-pull parallel EL34 amp. Then there is the Marantz Model Eight and on and on. No one thing pleases everybody (at least in this world) as experience will tell you. Just pay attention from which quarter the negatives emerge. Methinks 'they' protest too much.
