Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

driving subs

SirAnthony, hi. It may run counter to what most think but I have found a Class B tube amp to better any solid state amp I've tried below 120 Hertz. The Berning EA-230 is currently my fav. These screen drive amps produce about 30 W PP from a pair of 6JN6 biased way low. I redid the PS on it with Black Gate WKZ and Fairchild Stealth diodes. The solid state amps provided thump but not the organic 3D quality the 230 does. I encourage anyone interested to try a tube amp on subs. Tube McIntosh also do very very well below 120 Htz and even more so if brought up to date: R values all checked, better couplers, better B+ filters, and so forth. Happy Listening.
