RE: deHavilland Mercury

Malky, hi. How's support for deHavilland in the UK? I'd bet it is as much a rara avis as Cary. My guess would have been that Cary had at least some share of the high end market on the 'northern rock.' Must be too much local competition combined with value added taxes. I'd love to audition the 05 to find out how it sounds. I'm thinking the 05 must use some kind of composite triode scheme with 6SN7's ,same as conrad-johnson has been doing for years with another tube. I would love to put my ears on a deHavilland. For a commercial builder deH seems to be doing a lot of things right. Then there's the other option. Go with a custom build. The power supply in the 805 does not approach the ideal. Anything that uses 1200 uF electrolytics in a B+ supply is anathema. I once made a list of things to do to an 805 to make it better. I realized at number 22 I was headed down the wrong road. In commercial amps at least I know where deHavilland sources their outputs - Electra-Print in LV. I don't have a clue where Cary gets their iron. Maybe from our neighbor to the North?
