Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

RE: Tube newb questions

vinylbee, hi. Define "brighter glow" please. Is it the light given off by the filament or are large metal parts inside the tube glowing red-orange in places? If it is just the light given off by the cathode heater, or as it is also called, filament, you have nothing to worry about. If it is metal parts you do. Time to make a reading list on the topic 'how tubes work'. You can teach yourself. Lots of resources in reprinted books. Lots of resources on the WWW. If you own a tube amp and plan on enjoying it into the future it would be wise learn how it works. Ignorance (not knowing - as long as it is not willful) is no sin. Happy Learning & Happy Listening.
