M, hi. The Mazda 12AX7S I have are made in France. I have not seen another 12AX7 with the "S" designator other than French Mazda. Excellent tubes. Are sonics better than any other 12AX7 types? That is a matter of opinion. I would say not necessarily. Tube rolling a Hovland HP200P? Hmmm. Only your ears can tell. There are so many other ways to improve a circuit other than rolling tubes. The only application I have seen of the 12AX7S Mazda has been in broadcast equipment. What sort of tests are you talking about? I used to get a kick out of showing tube audio afficianados the Mazda 12AX7S (rara avis) because of the bright silvery plates (not Ag metal, of course). Nickel most likely.
