It could be the room, cables, pre, etc. Cardas Golden reference are considered "warm" cables. Others think they roll off the top end. The thing is that it is all about system and room synergy. You can borrow cables from the cable company or you can do lots of reading on this forum and others to develop an educated guess about what may work. If you get a fair to good price on used gear and it doesn't work out, you can resell it at a break even or small loss. You just need to be sure
that it is an item that is in demand. Now, finally, I will give you my best advice on something I am pretty sure will add warmth without loss of detail at a reasonable price. Go to weekendenvironments.com and see if Steewart still has the Golden Dragon IC's at his closeout price. This is just one of many options. Yes, adding a tubed pre (my system is all tubed) will most likely add warmth but there may be a tradeoff (bass response). The other posters are right in that you should provide complete system and room descriptions when asking for recommendations.
