RE: Quicksilver 8417 - Amazing Bass (am I crazy?)

piaf martin, hi. Crazy? Not at all. Quicksilver likes point to point wiring. This is a major sonic advantage. And, we are talking tubes here. When was the last time you heard a manufacturer boasting about their tube amp by comparing it to solid state? "Yup, this tube amp really captures the magic in the music just like the Gonzo Bi-Polar Monstro." I'd love to see something like that in one of the mags. I am mainly into SET but a use a Berning EA-230 (re-worked here) to power the subs - 120 Hz crossover. The 230 is a screen drive push-pull amp using 6JN6 (tv horizontal output) and is Class B. To all those who have not tried a tube amp on the subs I can only say, you don't know what you are missing. The low end benefits from the "organic" qualities of tube amplification in spades. Much better meshing with the above 120 Hz component. And, boy, is it fast. Happy Listening!
