check AC line voltage too

JerryS, hi. It is also a good idea to check line voltage. If you do you might be surprised to see how high and low it goes. The other surprise is how often it oscillates before it sags. The best way to do this is with a dedicated AC volt meter. I like analog because it can track the short interval swings better than a digital one. Under heavy demand it may drop to 108 or even lower and hang there. Conversely I have seen it creep to 128 or higher and hold. With an analog voltage meter you can easily observe a huge voltage swing upwards when certain loads come on line followed oscillation and then a sag. There are also those transients that are too fast to meter, big spikes that cause incandescent filaments to double their brightness for an instant or even fail.
