graciouslee, hi. #1 suspect - the solder connections from tube socket to the board. #2 suspect - the socket itself. What you are describing fits an "intermittent contact" diagnosis. I would suspect the tube(s) if you were getting other associated types of noise - low random sputtering, odd white noise bursts, or varying amplitude rushing noise. Often the tube socket/circuit board interface can be trouble prone with passage of years. Re-flowing these can often work wonders. Have you checked the input and output jacks? I would. De-Oxit makes some great products for enhancing metal to metal contacts. I would carefully treat all the tube sockets in your SP9. Take heed to ventilation warnings. Hope the cure is an easy one.
