RE: Plate Size - Sonic Correlation?

greg7, hi. I think there is not so simple a relationship to predict tube sonics as size/shape of anode structure. There are too many other variables including geometric relationships of cathode, grid, and anode. A mono-plate 2A3 resembles more a 300B in anode size & shape yet it sounds nothing like a 300B. Likewise a Type 50 sounds nothing like a 300B but (perhaps) more like a more powerful 45. The 5932 has a huge miconol base which surrounds everything in the tube below the plates. This may affect inter-electrode capacitances which may in turn might affect sonics. Happy Listening.
