Frihed89, hi. Exactly when National Union ceased manufacture I am not sure. I am thinking they manufactured through WWII and on into the 50's. I kept hoping Gerald Tyne would do the second volume on the history of the vacuum tube which would take up where volume one left off, the beginning of WWII. Volume one, The Saga of the Vacuum Tube, is fascinating with all the ins and outs and ups and downs of various companies and personalities. I don't know if Tyne is still living. There was a Geraldine Tyne interviewed on camera for the documentary Empire of the Air who spoke with great authority about many things tube including the machinations of Lee DeForest. When I saw her on film the thought occured perhaps she and Gerald Tyne are one in the same. I recommend all who are interested in a deeper understanding of vacuum tube history see this doc. I have it on a laser disc. Probably it is on DVD. Maybe some doctoral candidate will take up National Union as a thesis topic. All I can say is NU built righteous tubes.
