SETdude, hi. It would be great to have a way for new tube users to report their findings - sonics, reliability, ruggedness, quirks, failures, characteristics, and so on. I'm not sure a forum/thread is the right way to present the information. Perhaps something derived from the Wikepedia model. I'm not a big fan of Consumer Reports per se but it would be of great benefit to have information on line drawn not from the tube makers but from tube users. At least CR tries to compare apples to apples. There may not be a huge profit incentive to drive this kind of thing. It most naturally would come from users apart from some independent testing entity. The ever changing quality seen in some makers product (one batch good, another batch not so good) must be addressed. Claims by makers touted in the marketplace should be verified. The same could be done with capacitors. There seems to be an awful lot of snake oil involved in marketing these things.
