RE: 76 Tube Hard to find good ones?

GBLPS, hi. My 2A3 amp is 56 into 56 into 2A3. From your comments the 56 is like the 76 - can be a perfect tube in every respect but is microphonic. I wonder if Type 26 and 27 also suffer in similar fashion. My guess would be yes. Similar construction, age, materials, and so on. I have to say, though, the sound is superb with this combination. Certainly there is something to be said for gentle gain in two stages rather than one big jolt. I think there are other sonic benefits in using relatively low mu tubes in this way. Ordinarily I'd say the fewer stages the better is the rule but this 56/2A3 amp flies in the face of that. I tried changing the RC coupling to interstage but it was no go. Too little room. Interstage transformers with no shielding. It had the hum that wouldn't die. I went back to RC coupling. Anyway, happy 76 shopping. I would visit tubesandmore dot com (Antique) or call them. I like their service. The sales people know their tubes. They have NOS and used tested. I have thought about trying the "baking them in the oven" treatment just to see if the rumors are true. I need to gather more information about what I've only heard talked about.
