EMP and vacuum tubes

BambiB, hi. I am not sure immune covers it. The EMP effects would couple to anything remotely resembling an antenna: power lines, power cords, signal lines, metal pipes, duct work, radio & television towers, and so forth. EMP zaps transistors useless by vaporizing their junctions.
There were other EMP effects still classified. I highly recommend a documentary called The Rainbow Bombs if interested in this sort of mega death arcana. It is on DVD. It also contains a fleeting glimpse of Werner Van Braun in an aloha shirt flashing a smile at the cine camera. This doc covers all the high altitude mega tonnage detonation action at Johnston Island and some of the unclassified effects. Heads up while you watch, kids. There's a lot to see. Now then, I would say tubes are better able to withstand abuse including EMP rather than they are immune. Get anything close enough to the detonation point and it will fail - from neutron flux if nothing else. Tubes just happen to be a lot tougher than transistors. You bet, the USSR knew all about it.
