Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Diamonds, acres of diamonds.

paolichert, hi. The McIntosh MC-225 is thought by a great many including me to be the best sounding of all the McIntosh amps. As the circuit runs the output tubes biased very low tubes seemingly last forever. My 225 had it's original tubes when acquired about 1986. The C22 likewise is a gem. Both these things should have all electrolytics replaced (for starters). Both are primo audio gems of the highest quality. I believe the Stevens drivers to be both excellent and fairly rare. University tweeters? Are these things horns, direct radiators, or what? AR turntable. It has legions of fans. I think books have been written. This is a good table and a lovely piece of genuine audio history as well. With some digging on the WWW you should be able to link up with AR facts and mods. Audio Amateur may be a place to start. I'm sure there will be lots of others who want to comment on your acquisition. Your Dad has given you treasure even if he cannot see it.
