Jaynemo, hi. If needing line level I would go for a conrad-johnson Premier 10 or if you can swing a few more greenbacks the c-j Premier 14. The 14 has full remote. Nothing against what anyone makes or prefers of course. If you need a line level preamp sans phono the 10 and 14 make excellent choices. I'd check with a c-j dealer near you for trades in and also cruise around Agon a bit on the tube pre section. Happy listening! I have a lot of respect for VTL though have gone down the low mu triode road. There is no going back. Confession: I do use a Class B tube amp for frequencies below 120 Htz. Class B push-pull tubes drive those subs like nothing else I've ever heard. It is more musical than any solid state amp I've tried.
