RE: Life of a tube

Mywing, hi again. How easy would it be to test all the tubes locally? I mean a real Mutual Conductance test. Are all the tubes in your SP10 the same make, vintage? Who ever made those tubes must have built tough ones as the SP10 has earned a reputation for chewing through tubes. I gather the LN refers to a "grade" of tube offered by a vender. I don't know. I'd have to do some research on ECC88 types. I am thinking the Amperex PQ 7308 is a top flight candidate. Is this on a par with Cca? If it were me I'd try to find a local way to test the tubes. It would be of interest to see how each section looks after so much time. One thing I would do is strongly consider changing the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and anywhere else they show up. That would be prudent.
