Mywing, hi. Tube Life? Most small signal (voltage amplifier) tubes fail in audio service because they become noisy or the heater fails. The 6DJ8 types being of heater-cathode construction are subject to breakdowns between heater and cathode. In the days of tube hegemony you would typically find 6DJ8 types in color television tuners. You would not find them in audio amplifiers. The 6DJ8 types were seized upon in the early 80's as a cheap and convenient way to achieve high gain with lower noise. At least that was the idea. There is no free lunch. Lemming like behavior insured frame grid tubes would become audio ubiquitous. However tube life is like human life. Statisticians love this. Some tubes seem to go on and on. Some die young.
