Bob, hi. Once upon a time there was a thing called HAM radio. These licensed radio enthusiasts would build with vacuum tubes because for a long time that was state of the art. Once a year local HAM groups would put on a HAM fest - tables for rent to display and/or sell. Merchant areas with the latest stuff. These things still happen. The big things I remember were the swapnsellinstuff that happened in the parking lot out of the back of pickups, trunks, and truck beds. Cruising the show before the public was let in was de rigueur. Just rent a table to display nothing in particular and you gain vital access. I remember one HAM fest in the war memorial park in one small town where an entire front end for FM multiplex stereo was available cheap. It was all vacuum tube and in primo condition. Hey, 10 watts out of an exciter can get out farther than you think. Anyway. Find out when the HAM fests near you happen and go. Spend the whole day. Get there early and take some long green. You may not find that quartet of NOS new in the box RCA globe 50's for $20 bucks but who knows what you'll find? Happy festing!
