RE: Sylvania 5930 versus good 2A3's

Thanks for the post wpod. I have a bunch of RCA blackplate 2A3's (at least 5 pairs of different construction). I also have the stock Chinese 2A3C that came with the preamp. I also listeneed to a pair of Ken-Rad 2A3's and am now using a pair of Sylvania 2A3's. The Chinese (Shuguang) are very good. The Ken-Rad were very similar sounding to the Chinese. The RCA (springs on top mica) were beautifully 3D (deep, deep sounstage) but pretty dark and lacking detail. The Sylvanias are the best in my system. I also got a chance to listen to a pair of Sylvania single plates. They were very gorgeous sounding but lacked slam and bottom end.
They were also a very sloppy fit it the tube socket and kept blowing fuses. Save your money and pass on them. I had my doubts about the 5930
and you confirmed them. There are many exceptions but generally speaking, a bigger bottle provides a bigger sound. I still haven't listened to four variations of the RCA's I have. I have been enjoying the Sylvanias too much to feel like rolling right now. How about some more comments on your other 2A3 types and their sonic characters. Thanks.

Bart
