Quacking and honking into eternity

Stu, hi. Apparently there were Sino 50C-A10 manufactured long after NEC made them for Luxman and could make them no more. Recently a cache of some 62 50C-A10 was offered for sale out of western europe. No word on package selling price. If these were Sino made all I can say to those who plug them into amps and turn them on is good luck, light fuse, and stand back. In all probability the International Servicemaster tubes were Chinese. In the early 80's Gold Aero offered new 8045G. I bought 4 which had a service life of about 2 minutes at the recommended 75mA. There was cardboard sticking out over the metal shell of the octal bases (between the shell and the glass) which gives a clue as to their manufacturing standards. The real nut cruncher in this whole 50C-A10 thing is there was also a 6 volt version. At least with the 8045G one could mod an amp to accept KT-88/6550 or other octal based 6 volt filament tubes. Another item. Lux would push the operation of the 50C-A10 right up to the red line (like 6045G) with maximum voltage and maximum current to produce those few extra watts. I remember listening via Lux MB-3045 and glancing furtively at the plates for those tell tale cherry red spots which could turn orange faster than you could get to the amps and pull the plug.
