Re: Westinghouse 6SN7's made in Japan??

Al, hi. There was a period of time in the early to mid 80's when what came in a Westinghouse tube box could almost be anything. Of course this same time period coincided with a semi & tube jobber ( the name escapes me at the moment ) selling "Westinghouse" tubes. I take all of this with a large grain of salt. When Westinghouse, the industrial company, exited tube making/selling apparently the tube stocks fell into other hands. Apparently too there was no big legal hastle. It went on for years. Westinghouse (the company) probably never looked back when they ditched tube making. About a year ago I think I remember someone on e-bay selling Westinghouse boxes in bulk. Thus the box may say Westinghouse but the item inside may be from anywhere. I never researched this to see if production codes on the glass in any way matched what should be there if the tube were the genuine article. Counterfeiting may be too strong a word but at the end of major US tube production and in the years there after determining just exactly what was being sold required more than a new looking Westinghouse tube box. Looks like that situation still prevails.
