Re: Matsushita 7308 pinched waist

Ironbut, I agree with you about the Mazda chrome plate 12AX7 and also the Raytheon black plate square getter are nice. I was using them together one pair in the pre and the other in the amp. They were the best of the 12AX7's I have tried. The list is too long to run through but I did use the Amperex D getters that everyone pays big bucks for. The sin that they all have to different degree is smeared detail. As I said the ones that did this the least were the aforementioned Mazdas and Raytheons. I have to agree with Joe on this one. The Sylvania 5751 3M BP SG are truly super tubes. The GE he calls a close second has a major flaw. The mids are recessed to the point that vocals and all the good stuff that occurs in the mids are ruined. I am running the CAT's into Avalon Osiris and every tubes character is apparent. The old rule still applies, the GE's may work fine in other systems and if they do it is a screaming bargain compared to the cost of the Sylvanias.
