Re: Picked one up a very good 539B today for $400

jcoe,
OK. I'm curious about your opinion on the 539 vs Carmatic.
I have a few 539C's that work very well for me also (cal'd properly). I had a Cardmatic a few years back and I thought it was OK after a cal job on it, but IIRC, my Cardmatic didn't have the ability to externally adjust plate and grid voltages to the reference point as a tube was under load. Do the cards and the internal design of the Cardmatic allow for this? The 539C does and with a couple good DMM's one can get pretty good readings, with the understanding that max voltage is not anywhere close, in the majority of applications, to working voltages. So I sold the Cardmatic. Maybe I shouldn't have - don't know. If someone out there can explain to everyone as to the electronic design advantages (minus the turning knobs aspect) of the Cardmatics over the 539 series - that would be great. My post here is not intended to be a slam of Cardmatic users/owners, just a request for info. BTW, I made copies of the cards on a copy machine of some of the more popular types, if someone needs to make one that got lost or ripped up.
