Grummer, hi. The driver tube is important. Because the 1006 uses 6L6 to drive the 845 it would be wise to try different flavors here. You have lots of choices: NOS or OS TungSol 5881, JJ Electronics excellent KT-77, RCA black plate 6L6GC, and on and on. Since you have a Beam Power tube driving 845 is it triode connected or not? This will affect final sound. If you are wanting to optimize consider power supply rework and coupling cap changes. You can roll combinations of tubes until the next ice age when what you really want (need) is PS improvement and better coupling caps. Tube rolling is fun but has limits. Better signal path components, PS diodes, etc will take it to a whole new level.

- The 6L6 is the frontend-supply-regulator series-pass tube, not the driver. - jeffreybehr 21:15:52 10/24/06 (2)
