I tried one Conrad Johnson preamp...the PV2 I think...and that was exactly what I was speaking of when I described the bloomy sound and sizzle on the top end. I found the unit to be fatiguing, bass-less, and generally horrifying. And to anyone reading this, please lets not turn this into a debate about Conrad Johnson gear. If you like it or are happy with yours, I respect your opinion and tastes. However, from what I heard...the CJ design philosophy is not for me. These people are coming from a different place then I am....though I realize I was hearing a very old unit.
