Recommendations for LUSH, SMOOTH, SWEET, NON-FATIGUING tube preamp/line stage needed...sub-$1000 used price range

I'm trying to put together a second system and I need recommendations for a tube preamp/linestage. My budget is under $1000 used. I don't mind something older, but I'd like to avoid ultra vintage gear such as Scott, Fisher, etc. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to edginess and high frequencies. I want something that sounds warm, full, round, lush, smooth, sweet, and non-fatiguing. Still, it would be nice to find something that is reasonably neutral/transparent....but on the SOFT side of reality. In other words, if the Quad 57s were a tube preamp, what would they be?

Not interested in anything that sounds warm and bloomy, but "exciting" with sizzle/sparkle in the high frequency region. When I say smooth, I mean smooth. Dull and rolled off? Fine. As long as it's got some nice tonality, is free of grunge/artifacts, and IS NOT bright...I'm happy.
