Re: Metal 6L6 Tubes-Opinions?

Hmmm. I don't remember that one. Could be. I had the notion to try to build an entire amplifier sans tubes that could be run at the temperature of liquid Helium just to see what would happen. I was particularly interested in the coils/magnetics performance changes. It could get quite expensive to run your tube playback system if all your electronics had to be suspended in a near liquid Helium environment. Needless to say the tubes while operational would have to be isolated from this cryogenic environment. It would be interesting to do this still. This was back in 1995. I was fooling with silver wire then ( still am ) and super cooling treatments. This cryo thing has really caught on since. I told some people about what I was doing at the time and got nothing but blank looks. Tubes to need to dissipate heat and you don't want to do anything to them which will risk injury to the metal glass seals. Short of that they are impervious to almost anything including electromagnetic pulse.
