Actually about 700 or so MC2000s were made for sale world wide. Many feel this is one of the all time great Mc amps, myself included. It is very special and does not sound like.. whatever. Yes I have all of them to use and compare.
The current EH KT88s and SED KT88s are very good tubes and have a very low Failer rate in the McIntosh amps. Easily these equal the performance we achieved with the GEC Gold Lions and 6550 Tungsols back in the 50s and 60s and those are great old tubes. The small bottle Sylvania 6550s mentioned are also very good. The GE6550 is also a contender and has a somewhat big bass in some amps.
The tube tracer and production experience do not lie.
