Diodes work fine in a TV7 for the 83, but don't replace the 5Y3 with silicon. Apparently the small current draw is necessary. This is per Alan Douglas' book on test equipment - which btw is an essential read for anyone considering a tube tester. I wish I knew 10% of what Alan has forgotten about tube gear.Folks have reported that diodes can affect the calibration of some of the other Hickok's. I can't recall who has reported this, but perhaps Chris Haedt will chime in.
