Re: A few things.

Interesting that others have had better luck with cap loading. With the 866jr's any cap loading caused dramatic flash-overs. My experience was bit better with 866A's or 394A's on a breadboard - but choke loading sounded so much better I didn't push the issue.

I wasn't thinking of 83's where the spec's call for 4uf max without increasing the plate supply impedance. At least in the TV7's, 83's aren't pushed very hard. B+ is low, and the tubes really do get time to pre-heat. The B+ isn't applied until you push a test button.
