I actually like the TungSol 5881 very much - but I'm not always in agreement with popular dogma. They sound pretty darn nice in the Heathkit W2/3/4 series. Anyone who doesn't like their TS5881's can send them here for proper disposal! The Williamson's seem to benefit from output tubes that are well matched for plate current at actual plate voltages. I built a little jig that can measure plate current in the amplifier. Unfortunately it takes a good stock of 5881's to be able to match for appearance and plate current.
If you get a second look at this pdf of the care that went into the design - good reading. You might want to "right click" and save the file. I should probably re-scan the file at some point, but currently it's a 1.2mb file.
