The 5852 draws twice the filament current (1.2A vs .6A for the 6X5).There's a chance that what you're hearing is related to a change in B+ either from sagging filament voltage for the rectifier, or a change in voltage drop across the rectifier.
Time to get out your voltmeter. The 5852 is a superb tube, but only as good as the circuit it is plugged into...
