The US made KT88s were made in Chicago. McIntosh switched to the 6550C Svetlana output tube just like Audio Research and others as these are very good tubes. The MC2000 was designed using Svetlana KT88s which we have QC-ed to a tight spec to avoid tube variance. All the new amps are run on the production line and tested with the tubes shipped to perform at spec. McIntosh did not claim to use a GEC KT88 tube in any of the new amps. We used these in the 60's when they were available as well as Tungsol 6550s. Many current production tubes will work in the new or old amps. If you have the classic old tubes and they test fine you can of course use them in a modern amp.
