You can eek out 2 watts or so from most of them, and 5-6 watts using the 6BX7 as PP/Parallel. They put you well into the range you'll get from a 45 or 2A3 amp and substantially lower cost.

I've played with the 6EM7 as a driver and SET amp for several years now. It's a wonderful tube, probably the best bargain in audio today imho. Breadboard up the little DC coupled amp on my website for a pleasant surprise.

I've breadboarded with the 6AS7/6080 and haven't been at all impressed. I wish it sounded better, I have ton's of 'em! It is indirectly heated IIRC.

The nicest part of the TV triodes is that they are so common, and generally very consistent.
