I'd bet the 5V4G would throw off calibration. I can tell you that I've seen Hickok's with 80's sub'd for 83's and it doesn't work well. The 5V4G is certainly closer, but why bother.Remove the 5V4G, and solder in a pair of 1N4007's. Works perfectly, cost around $0.20 and reduces 2A of load on the transformer.
